It started with a concept — music from the land of rock. In 2001, we launched ten internet radio stations under the name Rockland USA. There was already a Rockland station in Germany, so we added the USA. Simple as that. A name was born.

Pop Rock Radio — Rockland USA didn't just survive the early internet. It thrived. Out of 15,000 internet radio stations worldwide, Rockland USA climbed into the Top 10. We won multiple awards at the Internet Radio Awards Ceremony in San Francisco — Best Rock Station, Best Pop Rock Station, and more. At our peak, 50,000 concurrent listeners tuned in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year from every corner of the globe.

Then Congress happened. Pressured by satellite and broadcast radio lobbyists, royalty rates for internet streaming were raised to unsustainable levels. In 2013, after twelve years of broadcasting, we went silent. Not by choice.

We didn't wait around. In 2007 we took the Rockland USA name into video streaming on BlogTV — back when video streaming was still figuring out what it was. We became one of the top streamers on the platform, featured daily on the front page. We won the grand prize for most popular streamer — an all-expenses-paid trip anywhere in the world. We chose Hawaii.

What worked? We built TV-style game shows designed for a live chatroom. Audience participation, real energy, real community. We also streamed on Justin.TV — the platform you now know as Twitch.

In late 2012, we stepped away from streaming. One of our regular community members, Amanda Todd, took her own life after being blackmailed by a predator in her stream. Her loss hit us hard. The internet had a dark side we weren't ready to ignore. We needed time away. We took it.

The years that followed weren't quiet — just different. We spent our time helping other content creators find their footing, teaching the basics of streaming and launching careers for many who went on to build successful channels of their own. We were also behind the mic for radio commercials across the US and Canada — voice work and production for small businesses coast to coast.

This isn't a new hobby. We've been on the internet since 1982. Built our first PCs in the 80s. Worked at Radio Shack. Were featured on the cover of Windows Magazine for creating one of the Top 100 software tools on the internet. Competed in Quake 2 tournaments in the 90s — reaching 2nd place nationally. Spent time as a game tester for Bethesda Softworks on The Terminator, the engine that would eventually power Elder Scrolls and Skyrim. Born in the shadow of the Nation's Capitol, shaped by every era of the digital age.

When the pandemic locked the world down, we looked around the room. A full streaming studio. A simulator wheel. Flight yokes. We were already ready.

We returned on Facebook Gaming driving Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. Within three months we earned Partnership. The audience came fast — 350,000 followers strong. Simulation gaming had found its community, and that community had found us.

When Facebook Gaming shut its doors, we didn't flinch. We moved to Twitch — and we brought everyone with us.

Rockland USA is evolving into a software and game development studio. SimTracker.gg is live. New tools, new platforms, and new experiences for the simulation gaming community are in active development. The compass that guided us here is still pointing forward.
